Tom Petty, you’re so wise.

I emailed the education desk the other day to ask if our trip to Thailand was going to cause any problems. Well, not problems, but I wanted to know if there was a chance they would be calling us or sending us an invitation while we were there. I mean, it seems like our luck that they would mail us something and expect a response in 10 days while we’re out of the country for three weeks.  Tim and I were both sure this would not be the case. We always said we would definitely get our invitation before we left for Thailand on May 12. Apparently, not so.

The response said that it was unlikely we would get an invitation before May 12. Bummer. We’re in kind of a weird limbo right now where we’re waiting, but soon we’re going to have to make some decisions about our lease and Tim’s job. We were really hoping getting our invitation in March or April would help us make those decisions. I think we’re going to go back to pretending like the Peace Corps doesn’t exist. That seems like the only way to get through the waiting.

I am in motion and in transition right now. I married Tim Knoll less than a year ago, and we recently applied to The Peace Corps. I work as a freelance journalist.

  1. I think you are right(again). I feel so bad for the two of you to be so stressed didn’t they say you would have time to make your plans after you receive your invitation. That would make sense. Can you and Tim get time off from your jobs to go to Thailand and then come back and wait and see. The condition our Country(goverment) is in today I wonder if some things could be put on hold. If so I would hate to see you guys that have the world by the tail get caught up in their holdups.

  2. It was good you checked this out. It does mean waiting longer, but at least you won’t be expecting something in the mail every day now. It has to be hard. I know the limbo is the worst. It’s just hard to plan anything. Hang in there….it is all part of the “PLAN”.

    1. Thanks, Grammy! It really means a lot to know that you’re rooting for us. I think we’re just going to play it by ear and see what happens. Our calendars are filling up so fast now. We’re going to just try to enjoy our creature comforts and time with family while we’re here. I don’t think there are any problems with the Peace Corps being canceled. Obama has actually tried to increase funding for the program. We’re so far along now, it’s just a matter of waiting.
Susie, thanks for reminding me of that. At least, the way I interpreted what you wrote. God DOES have a plan for us. He knows EXACTLY where we’re going, and it’s where we’re supposed to be. It will all work out for the best. Patience is a virtue, but it’s not one I particularly possess when it comes to something important to me. Tim, of course, is so patient. He tells me to be like him and stop worrying, just take life as it comes. But I don’t think it’s something you can teach. Oh well!
