Something for everyone

To our fellow PC applicants:

Are you making any sort of backup plans? I feel like PC always tells you to plan for the worst; you might not get an invitation or it might get pushed back. What will the rest of you do if that happens? Are you filing the FAFSA? Applying to graduate schools? Considering a career change? We hope we’re close to an invitation, but we’re considering what to do if that does not happen.

To anyone who is anxious to hear where we’re going:

The Peace Corps Wiki Timeline is a web site where other volunteers post when they get an invitation. Some invitations are trickling in for August. Someone even got an invitation for Uganda, one of the two African countries that leave in August. We’re not getting our hopes up, it’s just nice to see the process moving along.

I am in motion and in transition right now. I married Tim Knoll less than a year ago, and we recently applied to The Peace Corps. I work as a freelance journalist.

  1. I haven’t really made any backup plans. My staging date isn’t until September so if worse comes to worst then I may be able to stay on at the job I have currently. I am considered a seasonal employee since I have plans on leaving in 6 months so there will have to be some negotiations on becoming a full-time employee should my Peace Corps plans fall through.

Also, should they fall through, I’ll probably paper the western states with my resume. I’ve had enough of central Indiana for my liking. I need some topography in my surroundings…

    Good luck with an invitation!

  2. I think my plan B and C are AmeriCorps or Teach for America. I decided PC or not I don’t want to go to graduate school right away. I need a break or I’m going to get seriously burnt out. I’m leaning or towards TFA since it’s also a two-year program, but I still dunno, trying not to think about that too much. 🙂
